news....BIG news!

we've kept the secret as long as we can. we have BIG news to report...cruz is going to be a big brother! i nearly 14 weeks pregnant and am due on february 10th! after everything we've been through on this journey to start a family, who would have thought we'd have two kiddos under the age of 2? needless to say, we were a bit shocked and surprised when we found out, but we are very excited and feel truly blessed to add to our family. now we can only hope that baby #2 is as laid back and sweet as cruz!

i had a doctor's appointment last wednesday and we got to hear baby's heartbeat. it was amazing to hear and the heartbeat was very strong! the heart rate was 164...now everyone is telling us that higher heart rates tend to be girls, but we'll see. :) we'll certainly be happy either way! i go in for another appointment on the 29th and at that time we'll schedule the 20-week ultrasound at which time we'll hopefully find out the sex. sorry to ruin everyone's surprise, but i want to find out! heath said he could go either way, but i feel the need to know.

we're not quite ready to make the announcement on facebook yet, so would appreciate if everyone could keep comments off of there for now. i'm sure it will happen soon enough! :)

Quick Update

just a quick update...cruz has started to take a few steps! every night when we get home from work and daycare, we practice a little. he will take a few steps towards one of us and then plop down, but he's so proud when he does it! we ended up getting him a new pair of 'walking shoes' from stride rite (there's a funny story involved with that whole saga...perhaps i will blog about it later, otherwise feel free to ask me some time! let's just say i would NOT recommend the woodbury stride rite!) and i really think he does walk better when he's wearing them. his teachers at primrose are helping him so much, too...it's so cute when we pick him up and he gets a big smile on his face and they help him walk over to us!

One-Year Stats

cruz had his one year appointment on the 19th (grandpa johnson's birthday!) and he did pretty awesome considering he got four shots and a finger prick! grandma judy joined us as heath was in chicago for work. here are his latest stats:

Height: 29" (25th percentile)
Weight: 20 lbs. (10th percentile)
Head Circumference: 18" (25th percentile)

he's definitely a growing boy and loves to eat!

not only did heath have to travel for work this week - so did i! heath was in chicago monday morning through wednesday night and i was in dallas wednesday morning through friday afternoon. grandma judy came up tuesday afternoon to help out (thanks mom!) and watched him on wednesday since i had to fly out at 7:00 am. it was tougher than i thought it would be being away from him! the smile on his face when i walked in the door last night was priceless! so glad i don't have to travel very often.

heading to my cousin rachel's baby shower in owatonna today. her little guy clayton was born in june! looking forward to meeting him!

First Hair Cut!

cruz had his first hair cut today! don't worry, we didn't cut off all of his curls, just had shelly (heath's hair lady) clean it up a bit. i was a little nervous of how he would react, but he acted like such a big boy and didn't make a fuss at all. shelly tuned in phineaus and ferb on the little tv and put a fun 'under-the-sea' themed cape on him. she did save us a few curls to tuck into his baby book. awww!

it's so hot and humid that his hair has been unbelievably curly today! makes it kind of hard to tell how much she cut, but she did a great job.

today i pulled out my old little rocking chair for cruz to use. i think he likes it!

4th of July Weekend

last week's long holiday weekend was absolutely perfect! the weather was beautiful, cruz enjoyed his first adventure on lake minnetonka and we had a fun time with the family down in owatonna on the 4th.

More Birthday Fun!

we had a first birthday party for cruz on sunday, june 26th (also our 12th anniversary!). cruz had lots of fun hanging out with some relatives (thank you all for coming to celebrate), eating another cupcake, opening gifts and playing in the backyard. it's so hard to believe he's already a year old! we go in for his check-up on the 19th and i will post his latest stats then.
