Paperwork!
an update on paperwork: i finished filling out all of the I-800 paperwork when we got back from iowa on sunday and sent it in to lss yesterday for review. i heard back this morning that everything looks good so i printed it all off and we will be signing it tonight and sending it in to lss tomorrow. it will then be overnighted to USCIS (united states citizenship & immigration services) where it takes about fifteen business days to be processed. another big step closer to bringing cruz home to minnesota!

Lucky Little Cruz!
christmas week is here! i love this time of year...spending time with family and friends, giving gifts (ok & receiving them is pretty nice, too!), a little vacation from work and most of all the traditions! we spent last weekend in iowa with heath's family and had a great time. for once the weather cooperated the entire weekend and we both took friday off, so were able to enjoy a little extra time with the fam. we spent friday night at heath's sister heather & her husband nate's house and had a blast opening gifts with cruz's cousins quinn & gage. gage is at an especially sweet age where he appreciates everything so much and is willing to share things with everyone. what a sweetheart! quinn did share a chocolate covered cherry with gage & poor gage discovered that he didn't exactly like those! the reedys are very excited to meet cruz and he even got a cute little golf outfit from his aunt heather & uncle nate.
on the saturday before christmas we always get together with heath's mom's extended family (the ahrens clan!) at a community center (she is one of 10 kids, so the party has gotten very large). the ahrens family knows how to have a good time and they always come up with fun little games to play. one of the fun games is a cash lottery...anyone can pay $5 for a chance to win one of several cash drawings. well, heath ended up buying two chances and put cruz's name on one of them. guess who won the first drawing? cruz! he won $20 (thanks to quinn drawing his name!), so now we have to get his piggy bank started. lucky little guy! cruz also received a cute little outfit from heath's cousin ross and his family and a john deere tractor toy/book from heath's uncle mike and aunt janet. the whole clan is beyond happy for us and cannot wait for us to bring cruz down to the annual summer gathering in june. we had a great time seeing everyone and even snapped a quick picture of us by the tree that we will be sending in cruz's little care package.
friday we will head down to owatonna for christmas with my family. let's hope the weather cooperates for everyone traveling as it's been quite the winter so far.

Cruz John Reedy
yes, we're still basking in the glow of cruz's referral! we haven't even met the little guy and we're both head over heels in love with him. a couple people have asked about his name so i thought i would explain it.
CRUZ: heath & i came across this name nearly a year and a half ago and loved it. it's a spanish name that means 'of the cross'. it was so hard to keep it a secret for so long, but we were able to do it (other than telling auntie melissa last year while we were christmas shopping!).
JOHN: john was chosen as cruz's middle name for two special reasons. the first reason is that john is the english version of juan, the name chosen by cruz's birth mother. the second reason is john is a shortened version of johnson, my maiden name.
REEDY: i'll let you figure that out. ha! seriously, it is a little extra special that we were referred a boy as heath is the last reedy in his family and now cruz can carry on the family name.
pretty sure cruz can be happy he's still in colombia after the big blizzard this weekend! too bad we weren't there with him!

The Call, Yes THE CALL
It finally happened! We actually got THE CALL this morning at 10:00. Well, we got the call once we could locate Heath and get him on the phone, too! Never an easy task as some of you may know... :)
So, we are the new proud parents of a bouncing baby......BOY!
We are very excited and proud to introduce you to our son, Cruz John Reedy!
He was born on June 23, 2010 and weighed in at 5 lbs. 12 oz. and was 19" long. As of October 4th, he was up to a whopping 10 lbs. 15+oz. and 21 1/2" long (they say he LOVES to eat & consider him 'overweight' for his age!). We might be a bit biased, but I'm pretty sure he's the cutest little guy ever!
We hope to travel to Bogota in approximately 6-8 weeks to pick him up and bring him home. We have plenty to do in the meantime and as hard as it will be to wait, I'm sure it will go quick thanks to the holidays. We've been given the greatest Christmas gift ever!
I will update more as we find things out, but wanted to share our wonderful news. We are ecstatic and cannot wait to introduce Cruz to everyone!
